Odyssey Impact is seeking two content development interns for its subsidiary Transform Films. Interested candidates should have an interest in pursuing a career in non-fiction content.

Some of their recent awards include a Peabody Award as well as a Peabody nomination, Best Doc Short at the Tribeca Film Festival, a Special Prize for Human Rights at the Venice International Film Festival, Best Documentary at the Urbanworld Festival and a Grierson Award nomination, to name just a few.  Their films appear on Starz, Netflix, OWN, Amazon, and PBS, and the team has produced for most of the cable broadcasters. One of their films even launched Oprah Winfrey’s Documentary Club. 

About You
You are someone who is passionate about high quality nonfiction storytelling.  Someone who cares about socially relevant content that engages broad audiences with smart concepts based on strong characters and stories. Interns selected for this position will work directly with Transform team members, contributing to the process of developing original non-fiction and documentary content. This internship is for academic credit only.

Job Responsibilities
The Development Intern will work closely with the development and production staff to research and identify stories for development for television series and films as well as perform various administrative tasks to support the department. Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to: 
  • Attend meetings and provide summaries; 
  • Deep dive research into stories and topics of areas we are in development on;  
  • Source & research interviews and talent for stories;  
  • Support creation of decks and marketing materials; 
  • Attend department meetings and participate in review and feedback process 
  • Provide general support to the Transform Films production team, including taking meeting notes 
  • Other administrative and research tasks as assigned ;  
  • Research trends in documentary film and TV programming and on the film festival circuit; 
  •  Assist in the editing room during the creation of sizzle reels.

Ideal Candidate 
The ideal Development Intern is resourceful, reliable, creative, and has excellent time management skills. They are also flexible and can adapt quickly based on departmental priorities. In addition, the ideal candidate has experience working with diverse communities and a demonstrated interest in non-fiction storytelling. Familiarity with PowerPoint and other presentation software is highly preferred. Candidates with education or experience in journalism, non-fiction storytelling and/or oral history are strongly encouraged to apply. Development Interns must be able to work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Goals of the Internship 
This internship is an opportunity to work with experienced non-fiction and documentary producers to hone your understanding of the development process and storytelling skills, and to contribute to an award-winning team. This internship is expected to run a semester from January to May and requires a time commitment of three days or more per week during the internship term. Note that the Odyssey Impact offices are closed during national holidays.
